Meru

The word Meru is taken from the sanskrit word for mountain, as the Megalhitic age remain, mountain is the dwelling place of God, higher the area holier the area is.

The Meru has two, three, five, seven, nine and the most is eleven tiers. The two roofed Meru is for the deified ancestor, a meru with three levels symbolizes the layers of the universe; Bhur, Bwah and Swah Loka. One with five roofs symbolizes the five direction i.e. north, south, west, east and centre. Seven roofed meru represents north, south, west, east, bottom, middle and top. Nine roofed meru represents eight direction and the centre while eleven roofed meru represents eight direction plus bottom, middle and top.

The Andha Bhuana manuscript speaks of an eleven roofed meru represents the eleven layers of universe, those are Sekala, Niskala, Surya, Taya, Nirbhana, Moksa, Suksma Taya, Turyantha, Ghoryantha, Acintya Taya and Sayem.
